Summer has arrived at The CheckOut!
Join host David Meulemans along with Carolyn Wehner and Kevin Wood on piano for a beach-themed afternoon of communal singing, good vibes, and summertime nostalgia.
We’ll be singing sunny favorites including “Where the Boys Are,” a Beach Boys Medley, and plenty of other songs inspired by sand, surf, sunshine, and summer fun. Whether you’re a lifelong beach bum or just dreaming of a vacation, there’s a song for you.
Costumes are encouraged! Break out your Hawaiian shirts, beach hats, resort wear, flip-flops, swim fins, or your favorite poolside look. Prizes and admiration may be awarded.
We’ll also be joined by a surprise special guest.
No solos. No pressure. Just great songs, cold drinks, and the joy of raising your voice with friends old and new.

Musical performance by bw3. bw3 is the brainchild of trombonist and electronic artist Brendan Whalen. After moving to Chicago in 2015 to study music with some of the city’s finest musicians, the 29-year-old transplant became frustrated with the boundaries of traditional music and has made it a mission to break them down ever since. Fusing jazz, hip hop, and funk with ambient, electronic, and hard rock, bw3 has something for everybody and never fails to create a unique sonic experience.
