About
Echos is a program presented by playOUT! in observance of Trans Day of Remembrance created in alignment with the organization’s mission to amplify LGBTQIA+ voices in classical music through performance, commissioning, and community partnership.
Cellist J Holzen joins a guest curator for a program that brings together music and reflection shaped by themes of identity, memory, and connection. Echos creates space for multiple perspectives to coexist, inviting audiences into an experience of listening, witnessing, and presence. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Transmasc Society of Chicago.

A coming-of-age cabaret for a 40-year old theater kid.
Join Anna Caldwell and special guests for a whimsical cabaret celebrating her 40th birthday!
Through songs and stories, Anna explores what it means to be middle-aged, and how entering this phase of life reshapes your dreams, deepens your perspective, and invites you to take in the view from here.
The show features original songs by Michael Oldham, created in collaboration with Anna Caldwell. The program also includes music by Jonathan Larson, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Bock and Harnick, and more.
This special performance is a fundraiser for NAMI Chicago.
After guest artists are compensated for sharing their talents, all net proceeds will be donated to NAMI Chicago, the Chicago affiliate of National Alliance on Mental Illness, which provides free mental health support, education, and resources to individuals and families throughout the Chicago area.

Shaina Taub is a two-time Tony Award winner for the book and score of the Broadway musical SUFFS, in which she also starred as Alice Paul. The New York Times called her “a gravitational force” in the arts. She collaborated with Elton John on The Devil Wears Prada, and created musical adaptations of Twelfth Night and As You Like It at the Public Theater. Her performance credits include Hadestown, Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, and Old Hats. An Atlantic Records artist, she has released several albums and was named to the TIME100 Next list.

Ágnes Lakatos Quintet, A Hungarian Jazz Show

Ágnes Lakatos and Tibor Csuhaj-Barna are a voice and bass duo from Budapest, Hungary, who regularly perform throughout Central Europe and abroad. They will be on a U.S. tour stopping in Chicago to team up with Amos Gillespie on saxophone, Gustavo Cortinas on drums and Carl Kennedy on piano, for a performance at the Checkout on Thursday, July 2nd at 7:30PM.
They will be featuring originals and standards in a unique cross-pollination of styles where Hungarian folk intersects with the history of American jazz. “Ágnes Lakatos is one of the most defining personalities of Hungarian vocal jazz, both as a performer and teacher.
